New National Events for Summer Learning

Our summer professional development calendar continues to grow. Be sure to check it often to find learning opportunities. Two new SRI National Events were posted last week that may be of interest to many in our community:

Facilitating Inquiry and Equity Focused Learning Communities
June 26-29, 2017 in Atlanta, GA

This session presented by the San Francisco Coalition of Essential Small Schools (SF-CESS) is designed to support facilitators to go deeper into their work around equity. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone seeking to lead and facilitate professional learning spaces committed to equity. SF-CESS holds several these events each year and they quickly fill to capacity. Click here to learn more and apply to attend.

Teacher Leadership: Facilitating Adult Learning through SRI Collaboration and Reflection
June 26-28, 2017 in Council Bluffs, IA
This session is designed for teacher leaders who are often called upon to facilitate meetings of their peers or deliver professional development to faculty; as well as those who wish to acquire new skills and strategies for leading improvement of teaching and learning within a grade-level, department team, or within professional learning communities in their school. San Antonio Educator shares Blog on EdWeek

Many teachers are struggling to include the topic of immigration in their classrooms. Ryan Sprott, AP World History teacher at International School of the Americas in San Antonio, Texas, created the Border-land project as a way to get his students exploring these issues on a deep level. SRI Facilitative Leadership in São Paulo, Brazil

SRI Affiliates Anne Taffin d’Heursel Baldisseri and Margaret MacLean recently completed a two-day facilitative leadership workshop in São Paulo, Brazil; in both English and Portuguese. Click here to read their blog post outlining their work; and read reflections from participants.

Envisioning an Equitable Future through Personalized Learning

In partnership with the Boston Foundation, the Center for Collaborative Education is hosting a personalized learning convening. Tuesday, May 23 from 8:30am – 1:00pm at Wheelock College in Brookline, MA. This free event is designed to bring educators together to learn more about personalized learning that is happening in Massachusetts now, and think about how this learning can shape the future of education across the state. The keynote speaker is Ron Berger of EL Education. A light breakfast and full lunch will be served. Click here to learn more and register to attend.


Fall Meeting Registration Now Open

The Atlanta Fall Meeting will take place November 2-4, 2017. We are busy working on planning this amazing event. The Fall Meeting offers educators from across the country and world the opportunity to engage as adult learners in the grounded, deeply relational types of learning experiences they offer their students every day. Registration is now open!

The mission of SRI is to create transformational learning communities fiercely committed to educational equity and excellence. This mission guides the planning of Fall Meeting and your participation is an opportunity to enact these beliefs into practice.

The Fall Meeting will help you advance your work in collaborative practices that make a difference for all students, whether you are just starting or have been a part of SRI for years. Join us and help further our collective commitment to making schools better places for all students and educators.

Scholarships will be available and applications open in August. Space is limited, be sure to register early!
