Forging a Legacy for SRI – We have Options!

December 15, 2021

Hello SRI Community,

Season’s Greetings from SRI. We would like to share an update on the work of the Phoenix Committee, Shepherd Impact consultants, and SRI Board in securing the legacy of SRI. We continue to work on the plan for what happens when our resources as an independent organization are depleted and an independent national office is no longer fiscally or organizationally sustainable. This time will come early in 2022.

We have been looking for an organization with a fierce commitment to educational excellence and equity that is a like-minded soul, and  has the wherewithal and resources to continue our mission. The Phoenix Committee has given the board several options to ensure the future of transformational learning communities that are fiercely committed to educational equity and excellence.

As a result of the hard work of SRI’s Phoenix Committee, we believe we can entrust the legacy of our work and the community of SRI to one of the short listed organizations that are excited to hold and foster this work. We have connected with these finalist organizations and have requested standardized information from them.

The next step will be to collect and assess the responses to our request and determine who might best steward SRI’s legacy and community by the end of January 2022. We appreciate your continued support as we recognize the last 11 years as an independent organization, and plan for the next phase of our work.

Along with this work, we are also exploring how to emotionally connect and close this chapter together as a community and together embrace the next chapter.

Two weeks ago we held two community listening events. These sessions helped the board, the Phoenix Committee and those on the call to reiterate how much the work of SRI has impacted people’s personal and professional lives, and what is important to the community with regard to SRI’s future. We heard that it will be important to continue to gather yearly to share work and practices, and to ensure the protocols and tools continue to be freely available.

We will continue to share next steps in the process and how we plan to honor and celebrate SRI. If you would like to help or if you have any questions or would like to have a conversation about SRI and our legacy process, please contact Chris Jones, chris@schoolreforminitiative.org.

Thank you,
Chris Jones
