New SRI Organizational Director, Kari Thierer

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that we announce that Kari Thierer, of  Olympia, Washington, has accepted our invitation to become the Organizational Director for the School Reform Initiative. Kari comes to SRI from Big Picture Learning, where she has been National Director of School and Network Support.

Among a strong field of very qualified candidates, Kari distinguished herself as an educator deeply committed to educational equity, and a leader with demonstrated success in guiding a mission-driven organization. She joins SRI effective September 15.

In her first few months on the job, Kari will be spending time with Heidi Vosekas in our national office in Denver, as well as traveling around the country to get to know the SRI community by meeting with SRI affiliates and learning directly about the work happening in various local settings.  In addition, our Transitional Director, Frances Hensley, members of the Board, and I will work with Kari to help ensure a successful leadership transition.

We are thrilled that Kari will be joining the SRI community and look forward to all she brings to our work on behalf of students and their teachers in schools everywhere.  She is a seasoned educator and a bold thinker whose ideas and experience will help the School Reform Initiative grow and deepen our work in schools. Kari’s bio is available on the SRI website.

Please join us in welcoming Kari Thierer to the School Reform Initiative, and consider this an early invitation to celebrate the next chapter of SRI’s organizational journey when we gather at Winter Meeting  in San Antonio in January!

With all best wishes for a wonderful return to school,
Teri Schrader
On behalf of SRI’s Board of Directors.
