Equity First Retreats – Chicago Early Bird Deadline Friday

Are you looking for an experience where you can delve more deeply into what equity means for you in your practice?

The Chicago Equity First Retreat is just two weeks away! Space is limited, and the early bird rate of $300 expires this Friday April 12. After that, the price increases to $350/participant. You do not want to miss this opportunity to work with colleagues to dive deeper into what it means to have a fierce commitment to educational equity and excellence.

Click here to learn more and register for the retreat. Please share the retreat flyer with your colleagues who may not receive SRI emails. This event is open to all practitioners who are committed to educational equity and excellence.

Register Today – Early Bird rate ends this Friday, April 12

We still have one additional retreat opportunity: Philadelphia May 2-3. We pushed the date for Philadelphia to account for weather events that have made it hard to make plans to attend. The new dates are May 2-3, which means you still have time to register!

Have questions? Can’t make it to a retreat? Interested in bringing an Equity First retreat to your school or organization? Contact Executive Director Deirdre Williams (deirdre@schoolreforminitiative.org) to learn more.

Fall Meeting 2019 – Learning Experiences

Do you have a great idea for a Learning Experience at Fall Meeting? Are you using SRI tools and practices in exciting ways that you’d like to share with others? Then we invite you to offer up a Learning Experience on Friday afternoon, November 8, 2019 at the Fall Meeting in Cambridge.

Each year, we utilize a portion of our conference for Learning Experiences. These sessions, either 90 minutes or 3 hours (This year 3-hour sessions are split across lunch), allow affiliates to learn new skills, dive deep, and explore different concepts, all within the framework of the SRI Mission, Guiding Principles, and Achieving Educational Equity and Excellence Learning Strands. We are accepting proposals for Fall Meeting Learning Experiences now until May 23. If you are interested in proposing an experience, please utilize the Learning Experience proposal form.

Gain Skills for a New School Year and Enjoy Disney World

Join Pegasus Springs Foundation this summer at Disney for their Summer Educator Retreat and BOLT retreat for students.

Our friends at the Pegasus Springs Foundation are hosting a summer retreat at Disney World for educators and students. This means entire families can join in for summer PD.

Summer Educator Retreat
SRI affiliate and founding board member Gene Thompson-Grove will be the facilitator.
This session will:

  • Build our capacity to access, engage, and sustain complex and challenging conversations about equity, identity, and implicit bias that lead to changed practice;
  • Identify the dispositions and skills of culturally responsive educators, and explore how to develop these in both ourselves and our colleagues;
  • Use SRI protocols and resources that support adult learning, collaboration, and reflective discourse through the lens of equity;
  • Invite feedback by taking a close, collaborative look at the work we, and our students, produce.

Building Our Leaders of Tomorrow (BOLT)
BOLT students in grades 3-12 will work in age-level groups with trained educators. The curriculum instills confidence while developing skills to return students to their schools and communities with a new sense of leadership. Students will work in small teams and learn to collaborate effectively and build relationships—all while having a fantastic time at the most magical place on earth.

There is a special discount for SRI affiliates! Members of the SRI Community get a $25 discount on registrations with the code: SRI25
