2012-2013 SRI Board Election Results

January 10, 2013

Dear SRI Colleagues,

I am so happy to be writing to you today at the conclusion of our third board election cycle. This is one more important step in achieving our goal of a fully elected board. It hardly seems possible that we created our succession plan and are now seeing its completion! It’s heartening to realize that progress toward a thoughtful vision of a democratic and transparent SRI organization is really happening. I thank you all for another year of committed work and care of SRI.

This year, our nominating committee, co-chaired by Gene Thompson-Grove and Sue Ellen Wortzel, did a remarkable job and presented a slate of eight strong candidates. Now, I am thrilled to announce the three new SRI Board members, elected by our affiliates around the country:

Heather Palin- New York

Beth Graham- Massachusetts

Thomas Van Soelen- Georgia

Their positions on the SRI Board take effect immediately and their first board meeting will be on Saturday of Winter Meeting in San Antonio.

Our deepest thanks go to our departing board members, Angela Breidenstein and Wendy Brannen, for their service as founding board members. It is impossible to imagine the work of the past several years without the contributions, thinking, and energy of Angela and Wendy. We have been a stronger group because of you – smarter and wiser and more capable because of your work and dedication.

Departing Board Members:
Angela Breidenstein- Texas

Wendy Brannen- New York

Thank you to all the voting affiliates for using your voices and taking ownership of our organization, as citizens of the School Reform Initiative.

Here’s to our New Year and the wonderful work we’ll do together.

See you in San Antonio,

Teri Schrader
On behalf of the SRI Board
