REGISTRATION

A Critical Friends Group (CFG) is a professional learning community that commits to long-term collaboration toward improved student learning. Members work together to improve practice, examine curriculum and student work, identify school culture issues that affect student achievement, and observe each other at work.

During this highly interactive three-day institute, presented by Dr. William Pollock. You will learn how professional learning communities (PLCs) contribute to increased student achievement. You will work together to create a PLC while learning the concepts and skills that lead to more reflective practice. You will then prepare to translate these experiences to your professional learning community work back home. Participants will be able to keep in supportive contact throughout the school year to address any operative questions or issues.

Each participant will:

Understand the significance of professional learning communities in improving student learning.
Know strategies for engaging in reflective discourse based on ideas contained in different kinds of “texts” or “media.”
Understand how to give and receive productive feedback on professional practice.
Understand methods for increasing learning by examining student and adult work collaboratively and know when to use which methods.
Have a clear sense of the role of a CFG facilitator in creating and sustaining a professional learning community.
Have a clear, practical plan for working with their CFG.

Participants are encouraged to register in small teams from the same school or district so that they can support each other’s learning.

Class Size is limited. Early registration is suggested.
