2018 Fall Meeting – Register Today!

April 26, 2018

We are really excited to launch registration for the 2018 Fall Meeting! Please join us in San Antonio, TX, November 8-10, 2018.

Fall Meeting is a unique experience, different than most educational conferences, in that we spend most of our time in small learning communities, having conversations about the complexity of teaching and learning, with a primary focus on educational equity. In order to make schools better places for every student, the foundation of SRI’s work asks us to:

  • Work in ways that challenge assumptions and bias about race and equity, and question how these assumptions are enacted in practice;
  • Be accountable to colleagues to continually improve practice that benefits every learner;
  • Engage in and learn from collaborative & reflective practices that intentionally focus on teaching and include close, public examination of the work learners produce.

Our Fall Meeting experience puts this learning into practice, where every participant is asked to engage in complex conversations about teaching, learning and the ways in which school systems work against student success. We utilize large group experiences, learning experiences, and most importantly, our small collaborative learning groups, to engage with each other in conversations about educational equity and excellence. There are no observers!

SRI is continuously growing and learning from our affiliates. We strive to ensure that the work we are doing not only reflects the mission and guiding principles of SRI, but that it serves the SRI community by providing learning experiences that meet their needs and pushes their thinking.

This year, we’ve made some changes to the Fall Meeting schedule that we think will better support our goals and those of our attendees.

New this year:

  • Our keynote speaker, Dr. Jamila Lyiscott, will provide a webinar prior to Fall Meeting as an opportunity to introduce her work and begin the conversations that will continue at Fall Meeting.
  • More time in Collaborative Learning Groups! Learning experiences will take place Thursday afternoon, and we’ve dedicated all day Friday and Saturday morning to Collaborative Learning Group time.
  • Two large group experiences – the opening on Thursday, and then a second large group experience Saturday mid-morning, both sessions will include hearing from Dr. Lyiscott.
  • On Saturday afternoon, we will continue our work with a ‘Putting our Learning into Action’ session that will include some time to think together about the work of the organization in general, but also allow participants to think about the work they will do when they leave the Fall Meeting.

The Fall Meeting will continue to be a place for connection, community and renewal. San Antonio lends itself to exploration and reflection and we know this will be an experience you won’t want to miss! We hope you will join us on the Riverwalk! Register now!
