News from the School Reform Initiative

We want your new protocols!

As the work of SRI continues to evolve, new protocols are being written to support collaboration and reflective dialogue! We have finalized a protocol submission process for people who have created new protocols and would like them to be considered for addition into the SRI protocol library.

In order to submit a protocol, you must be an affiliate; must include some history of the protocol (how and why it was created); along with some other documentation. As protocols are submitted, we will add them to a ‘new protocol’ category on the website so that affiliates can test them out and provide feedback. Have you developed a new protocol that you would like to share with the SRI community? If so, then read about our submission process here and share your work!

Translate, Transform, Transcend

SRI Affiliate and former SRI Board Member Teri Schrader is featured on the CES Blog this week. Teri is the head of the Watkinson School in Hartford, CT, a school that is deeply embedded in the work of the Coalition of Essential Schools and School Reform Initiative. Teri writes about how the work of CES has informed her own practice, and the growth and development of Watkinson. You can read the post on the CES blog.

Winter Meeting Learning Experiences – Call for Proposals

Do you have a great idea for a Learning Experience at Winter Meeting? Are you using SRI tools and practices in exciting ways that you’d like to share with others? Then we invite you to offer up a Learning Experience at the 2017 Winter Meeting in Denver.

Each year, we utilize a portion of our conference for Learning Experiences. These 3.5 hour sessions allow affiliates to learn new skills, dive deep, and explore different concepts, all within the framework of the SRI Mission and Guiding Principles. We are accepting proposals for Winter Meeting Learning Experiences now until September 15th. If you are interested in proposing an experience, please utilize the Learning Experience proposal form. Questions? Email or call Kari (kari@schoolreforminitiative.org or 303.586.1169)

Teach to Lead Focuses on Teacher Preparation – Deadline Extended to September 15th

Over the past two years, Teach to Lead has helped drive a national conversation on teacher leadership and helped teachers turn their leadership ideas into action. The US Department of Education, SRI, and more than 120 supporting organizations have joined to support this critical work. It is Teach to Lead’s mission to expand opportunities for teacher leadership by providing resources, facilitating stakeholder consultation, and encouraging professional collaborations to develop and amplify the work of teacher leaders.

Teach to Lead will be hosting a Teacher Leadership Summit in Washington, DC on November 3-4, 2016. This unique summit will focus on teacher preparation programs, leveraging teacher leadership to strengthen teacher prep programs. The deadline for applying has been extended to September 15th, and the team requirements have shifted – so if you looked and it did not quite fit your team – look again!

At the Summit, educators from around the nation will work to collaborate, problem solve, and develop action plans to put their own teacher leadership ideas into action. The hope is to attract the best teacher leadership ideas from exceptional educators across the country to drive innovation in the teacher preparation space.

Click here to learn more about this opportunity and for information on how to apply. We know there are a number of SRI Affiliates who work in teacher preparation programs, and we would love to have you be a part of this important work!
