  1. I chose the section “Build Time for Students to Read Independently” in chapter 4. In the past, my students have more time to free read once they are finished with independent work. This is mostly beneficial for students that work quickly or work efficiently. I look forward to changing this. Covid has changed our school schedule. The school day will be 10 minutes longer. Students will also come to the classroom first thing rather than go to assembly. This adds more time to read in the classroom!

    I feel like all of my students will benefit from their time spent independent reading. Research in this chapter shows student success for those who have time to read at least 30 minutes a day while at school. There was one school year when I was able work in a study hall at the end of the day. Many students used this time to read indepedently. The state test scores at my grade level were the highest they had ever been this school year.
