Atlanta Fall Meeting – Call for Volunteers

We are very excited to announce the call for volunteers for our next annual conference: SRI Fall Meeting debuts in Atlanta, November 2-4, 2017!

We are seeking volunteers from the SRI community who have the passion and time to help us craft an engaging, inspiring and transformative experience for educators.  The committees  represent the core elements of the SRI Fall Meeting.

If interested, please email Kari Thierer to let her know which planning committee you’d like to join. Interested in more than one? Outstanding! We could really use your help and talent!

Pre-Conference Selection Committee
Task: Solicit proposals for pre-conference experiences: Committee members will review proposals and select those that best support the learning of our diverse participant base.
Time Commitment: 2 hours/month April – May. Announce pre-conferences in June
Volunteers Needed: 2-3 people

Keynote Selection Committee
Task: Identify and select keynote speaker(s): Committee members will identify, review information and interview potential speakers that align with the SRI Mission and Guiding Principles and that will inform, inspire and engage participants in active learning.
Time Commitment: 2 hours/month April – May. Announce keynote speaker(s) in June
Volunteers Needed: 2-3 people

Hospitality Committee
Task: Identify and secure donations, sponsorships and exhibitors: Committee members will solicit donations for the silent auction, connect SRI with potential local sponsors, brainstorm and solicit potential exhibitors, help design the Friday evening reception.
Time Commitment: 2 hours/month April – October
Volunteers Needed: 2-3 people. For this committee, local planning team members are encouraged to join.

Marketing/Advertising Committee
Task: Identify local and national schools/districts/organizations for specific outreach: Committee members will help design reach-out materials to advertise the Fall Meeting and encourage participation.
Time Commitment: 2 hours/month April – October
Volunteers Needed: 2-3 people. For this committee, local planning team members are encouraged to join.

Learning Experiences Committee
Task: Solicit proposals for learning experiences: Committee members will review learning experience proposals and select proposals that align with the SRI Mission and Guiding Principles and that support the learning of our diverse participant base.
Time Commitment: 2 hours/month August – September. Announce learning experiences in October
Volunteers Needed: 2-3 people


Five Dispositions for Personalization

SRI affiliate Kim Carter has an article in this month’s Educational Leadership titled Five Dispositions for Personalization. In this article, Kim talks about her own personal experience supporting teachers to cultivate the conditions that make personalized learning possible.


Teach to Lead Soliciting Applications for Ohio Teacher Leadership Summit

Teacher to Lead is seeking applications for participants interested in submitting a proposal for the Innovation through Teacher Leadership Summit being held in Columbus, OH on May 5-7, 2017. Application deadline is Thursday, March 30, 2017.

Any educator with an actionable idea is encouraged to submit an application. Teams must have 2-5 members and must include at least one active teacher. Other key stakeholders (e.g. parent, student, community members, school and government officials) are encouraged.

Participants will develop a local idea into a complete plan for moving forward. Obtain the support of a dedicated coach from a supporting organization to advance your work. Participants must pay for their own travel, but if selected will receive free registration, free hotel accommodations for two nights or parking, and some meals during the summit.
