SRI Board Nominating Committee

September 20, 2013

When the founding members of the board of directors opened the doors of the School Reform Initiative in the fall of 2009, they were committed to creating and sustaining a mission-driven organization. Since then, SRI has continued to develop processes and opportunities for transparency and shared leadership in all areas of our governance and operations. The board work has been guided by a collective commitment to developing an elected, diverse, and representative board. We are excited to begin work on our fourth annual board election.

We hope you will participate in the process of board elections. Vote when the election opens, nominate colleagues to run for election – or run yourself! – or volunteer to serve on the SRI board election nominating committee.

The nominating committee has three tasks:

  1. To support the nomination process and encourage members of the SRI community, based on the characteristics identified for open board seats, to be candidates in the annual election;
  2. To accept nominations on behalf of the SRI board from the field, supporting nominated candidates with the application process;
  3. To submit a roster of candidates to the SRI board prior to the opening of the election.

The nominating committee will work during the months of October and November to assemble a field of candidates who are willing to take on the responsibilities of an SRI board member. The final roster of candidates will be submitted to the board for approval and then an online election will begin in early November. New board members will be announced in December, and will be officially seated in January at the Winter Meeting in Boston.

We are seeking four (4) SRI affiliates to join Jean-Jacques Credi (GA), affiliate representative and Ileana Liberatore (TX), board representative who are serving as co-chairs of the nominating committee. We are looking for affiliates who reflect the diversity of the SRI community – diversity of professional experiences, geography, ethnicity, and with their experiences with SRI. We hope you will consider serving as a member of the nominating committee. Please note that by serving on the nominating committee you are not eligible to run as a candidate in this election.

This is an important role vital to the future of our organization. If you are interested in serving on the nominating committee please contact Ileana Liberatore at iliberatore@schoolreforminitiative.org by October 2nd.

Kari Thierer and Ileana Liberatore,
On behalf of the SRI Board
