SRI Board Election Nominations Are Now Open

September 4, 2014

Dear SRI Colleagues,

Since SRI’s inception, we have worked with intention to be a mission-driven organization, one fiercely committed to educational equity and excellence. Our fully-elected, volunteer board of directors is committed to reflecting the diversity of our schools and to seeking out those in our network who are ready to take up leading us in this effort.

Each year the board takes note of our organizational needs and strives to meet those needs through the upcoming election.

Call to Action:

This year our board is in need of three new members who are currently working in schools and directly with students – namely students of color, students with language diversity, and other students who are traditionally under-served in schools – these can be schools in rural, urban or suburban areas. We are seeking colleagues who are active participants in the day-to-day work of schools and districts.  This unique perspective will help us to be responsive to the needs of schools and districts, allowing us to create long-lasting connections in order to share our work with more educators throughout the country.

Board members serve a three-year term that will begin at our 2015 Winter Meeting in January.  SRI board members meet monthly via web chats, along with two in-person meetings, including our annual Winter Meeting and at a Fall retreat.

If you have the passion, time, and desire to work with us, we want you!

What can you do?

  1. Think about colleagues whom you believe would be outstanding board members, and talk to them about standing for election. Perhaps that someone is you!  See the SRI Board Member job description.
  2. Email the names of those you would like to nominate (could be yourself!) to Mark Otto (marktotto@gmail.com) and Ileana Liberatore (iliberat@trinity.edu) co-chairs of the Nominating Committee, anytime, but no later than 8pm EST on September 25th.

The Nominating Committee will contact nominees to explain the process, answer questions, and to help them prepare their materials. All candidate materials are due to the Nominating Committee by Midnight, EST on October 10th so that a final slate of candidates can be presented to the SRI Board by October 13th. The board will open and hold a national election (electronically) from October 15th – November 21st.

To stand for election or to be eligible to vote in the upcoming election, you need to be an Affiliate of SRI.

Speak to your friends and colleagues.  Encourage them to nominate themselves or others, and to vote when the time comes!

With great excitement,

The SRI Nominating Committee

Mark Otto, Ileana Liberatore, Jean-Jacques Credi & Lindsey Pollock
