Edwidge Danticat to Keynote Winter Meeting

We are excited to announce that MacArthur Fellow, and world-renowned author, Edwidge Danticat, will be the closing keynote for the Miami Winter Meeting.  She published her first book at age 25, and has continued to publish both fiction and nonfiction. She was born in Haiti, and immigrated to the United States as a teenager. Her Haitian background is featured widely in her writing, and in her activism. Board Election Volunteers Needed

We are looking for 2-3 more affiliates to join the nominating committee and support the 2015 board election. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the work of the Board of Directors, and help us find candidates who support the mission of SRI and who will help us grow and sustain our organization. All interested affiliates are encouraged to participate! Committee member duties include:

  • Helping identify potential candidates within the SRI community
  • Working with the board of directors to finalize materials and job description
  • Supporting candidates as they complete their application materials
  • Supporting the election by helping with messaging and encouraging affiliates to vote

SRI Affiliates serving on this committee are not eligible to run for election as board members in the current board election cycle. This is a short-term committee with work beginning in September, and ending by December with the culmination of newly elected board members. The time commitment requires a few hours each month by phone/video, with some potential off-line work. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please email Kari (kthierer@schoolreforminitiative.org), by Tuesday September 15th. We are hoping to start our work in the next few weeks.
